Capela dos Ossos
Evora, Portugal
The Chapel of Bones "Capela dos Ossos" is
decoratively lined with the skulls, femurs and
tibias of thousands of the dead who's remains
were ransacked by monks and nuns for the
purpose of creating a fearsome monument to
religious and soulful purification and mortality.
In one corner, the mummified remains of a
man and his infant son were supposedly hang
from the boned wall as a reminder of fidelity.
